The outside sprinkler system is a Rain Bird and always needs some maintenance.  I have three zones, one in back and the south corner, the next along the east side and southeast corner, and the third along the front and west side up to the air conditioner outside unit.  

I have found that extending the PVC pipes up and putting better nozzles on them has resulted in 1) less gumming up of the nozzles by bugs and mud, and 2) less chance of the lawn mower guys chopping them off. 

This one was gummed up, so I replaced it with an up-pipe and new nozzle like such:
