This is a typical problem with the outdoor "Rain Bird" sprinkler system.  A little dripper was installed, which got compromised by the sun or something, and broke off.  Now a small stream of water jets straight upward, and takes pressure from the system, resulting in diminished coverage by the other nozzles on zone three.  

The fix is easy.  In this case I pulled the remainder of the broken dripper out of the hole that was drilled into the PVC pipe and inserted, in its place, a short sheet metal screw of the proper size.  Having only two little problems to fix upon return is a real windfall for me.  More time to paddle and bike.
