BWW

 BWW

This is the so-called "final house", with bedroom, bathroom, and laundry potentially on the ground floor, so we can age out in it.  It's a lot of house for aging out, and will provide a lot of projects, beginning with moving in.  But it has mega-gardens for the master gardener and a garage and basement for the handyman.  The view from the front room is of the Cherokee Marsh with a city park intervening so the view will not be obstructed.  It's gonna need a roof soon and some tree trimming, some of which might have to be professionally done.

  1. Had our walk-thru, prior to closing. Looked it over real well. There are a million small projects in addition to the roof needing replacement soon. The garage has a work bench, as well as the basement, so I will be able to have a lot of tools and supplies handy. It looks like they are leaving an aluminum extension ladder and wooden step ladder, that I will have in addition to my own. There is a garage door opener (2-car garage). We will be able to store our stuff in the garage until we want it inside the house. Major furniture will go eventually by movers but it won't amount to a whole lot.

  2. Closed on the house. Spent half the afternoon cleaning out the shed and preparing for tomorrow's plant moving and such. Took one load to the new abode, swept out the garage, cleaned it with water and pine-sol and left one van load of stuff on a tarp therein.

  3. Took one van load of boxes and things plus two of Aaron's truck loads of plants, pots, and grubby backyard and shed stuff. Grandson Nik also helped me put my canoe on top of the van. Very productive day. Everything planted or stowed away in garage or in garden where it can be covered up.

  4. Took one more van load of stuff plus the bicycle built for two. Cathy worked on her plantings and I worked on project #2

  7. Another load of stuff in the van, plus I brought the vacuum and did all the carpet floors in preparation for the carpet cleaners who are coming tomorrow. Cathy put down an initial coat of varnish on bad spots of the upstairs bedroom floors, hopes to put a full coat on both of them tomorrow.

  8. Yet another small load of stuff. Cathy varnished both upstairs bedroom floors and I supervised the carpet cleaning guy while he did all the carpets and the couch in the sunroom. Then I supervised the furnace guy who came to get the furnace running. In between, I fiddled with lockset in the back patio garage door and with initial finding out about re-keying the locks to the house.

  9. Took a small load of things over for stashing in the garage, including window well covers for a future project. Checked the house and all was good. Smell of shellac.

  10. Brought another load of stuff over in the van. Cathy's floor shellacking looks great. House warm. She worked on cleaning the cupboards in the kitchen.

  11. Brought the lawn mower and a van load of outdoor furniture as long as I was doing some mowing and blowing. One more load arrived.

  12. Brought another load of boxes and some lawn furniture. Cathy worked cleaning the kitchen and I worked on finishing up other projects. The kitchen sink leaks when the faucet is on and I can see that it is coming from up under the faucet itself rather than just a loose fitting somewhere below. One shut-off is frozen and will have to be replaced. We put a pan beneath and are going to live with it until spring when we will likely replace the countertop.

  14. Yet another van load, a pretty big one. Tea cart, some coffee tables, credenzas, and boxes of kitchen stuff, and the last kayak. I unloaded while Cathy did more cleaning and shelf lining in the kitchen. Then I worked a while in the basement on tearing down the old refrigerator that was left there. Also put leaf bags out to the street.

  15. Another pretty good van load taken up there. More lawn furniture, a lot of inside boxes. I worked in basement after unloading and Cathy did more kitchen cupboards and then went outside pulling invasive plants. I bagged. Tomorrow is the 2 Men and a Truck day to bring the big stuff. I have to prepare grill, washer, dryer, Grandma Lill's cupboard for them.

  16. Took a small load of stuff today but the big advance was that Two Men & A Truck moved our beds, dressers, bigger lawn stuff, grill, washer, dryer, and freezer plus contents all to the new place. The old house now is about as empty as a jail cell. They also got the old fridge out of the basement and out to the street. We rented the 'rug doctor' from Menards and did another course on the sofa that was left in the house. Then back to the old place where Cathy did all five of her area rugs before we roll them up and move them.

  17. One more load over, including 4 of five area rugs. While there, Cathy worked more on kitchen, I put together the single bed, Grandma Lill's pie safe cupboard, and the top back on the kitchen table. Good progress.

  18. Took the last area rug plus a pretty full van load. We're really getting down there. Put the rug in my bedroom and set up my bed frame. Plus some other odds and ends.

  19. Another van load. Grandma Lill's wagonseat plus boxes of kitchen stuff. That's what we're getting down to. Staying over night at the new house for the first time tonight! More to move tomorrow. Walk thru is Sunday.

  20. Tool essentially the last load. All that is left is the router and TV so we can hang out and use the internet for a few more days before closing. Sleeping and the new place now.

  21. Spent the afternoon of the 15th doing last minute computer work because we don't have internet yet at the new house. Brought the modem, router, TV, printer, and 2 chairs we had left there. Left the old place for the last time.

  22. 10:00 a.m. we closed on the old place, turned over the keys. Project of moving is concluded.
