Before we even closed on the house, this fine table became an issue and was not going to be moved over there, because...
...the 1/32-inch of luan veneer on the underside of the lip was dried out and shedding little pieces onto the floor or your lap at Thanksgiving dinner. An hour with the 1/2-inch chisel carefully removed the remainder of the layer, followed by a thin coating of shellac to seal the wood.
Wouldn't it be my luck that of the two leaves for this table, which were stored upstairs were in perfect condition except for one side of one leaf! Got the chisel out again and knocked the luan veneer off that one side.
